The chalet is perched on a mountain high above our little village of Mieussy just below its ski resort called Praz de Lys – Sommand. This is the closest resort to Geneva airport if you are flying and its also the closest part of the alps to the UK if you are driving, so you wont be wasting any precious holiday time. The chalet is surrounded by ski resorts, all equally accessible in minutes and offers a veritable menu of skiing to sample, although our own resort is by far the prettiest and the most peaceful or so we think!
Everything you need is nearby, including ski hire, shops like the village bakery for croissants, a large village delicatessen for amazing cheeses, and a quality supermarket that could show Waitrose a thing or two. The Chalet comes well stocked with kitchen extras like spices, oils and vinegars, and some basic foods. There are sledges to borrow, table tennis, board games, Wifi, 2 TVs and 2 DVD players, Music and large library of films and books.

  • By Air
Geneva is the busiest winter holiday destination in the world but with ledgendary swiss efficiency it manages it pretty well. Geneva Airport to the chalet door is a 50 minute drive. The chalet with its georgeous views, sits on the mountain between the small village of Mieussy at the bottom and just a few minutes from Sommand, the closest ski resort to Geneva. Together with Praz de Lys, its integrated twin resort, it is one of the highest (1400m) ski resorts, with a reputation for abundant snow and the unspoilt scenery of its 60km of delightful ski runs. It has escaped the heavy development and package holiday tourism of nearby villages like Morzine and Flaine, because it is a designated nature reserve. Come and enjoy nature at its most pristine and beautiful.
  • By Road
Chalet Le Moulin is located in the closest part of the Alps to the UK. You can travel down to the Alps on blissfully smooth, and often empty French motorways. A family in a comfortable car with two sharing the driving, can manage it easily, and while it may be a little tiring, it is certainly bit of an adventure for the kids.
  • By Rail
Eurostar/TGV will whisk you at blinding speed and comfort, across France. The TGV train transports you via Paris and Annecy to nearby Cluses or Geneva. Eurostar from London, Brussels and other European starting points are integrated into this schedule. A lower your carbon footprints – or ski boot prints!
  • Fly-Drive-Ski?
Many families have just a week to enjoy the delights of a ski holiday. Those who blindly package buy their holiday are often choosing a distant airport or a distant ski resort or even worse both! A day long bus transfer after an early morning flight is anything but a pleasant start but together with the return journey, this will waste two days of a seven day holiday. Its stress and time they wont ever get back. In addition the transfer costs for a family of four are equal to the hire of a car for seven days. Then add in the benefits of a car’s flexibility in exploring the surrounding alpine towns, open air food markets, ice skating, the hot spa pools of vitamparc or an end of holiday trip to Geneva and its lake. Why would you confine yourself to an appartment in a single ski resort? The surrounding villages in the Samoens valley each have a ski resort and they are all about 5 minutes drive from each other. With a car you can park up next to a chosen main chair lift and ski a different resort every day. All of the villages in the valley floor have resorts that are linked, allowing you to ski and explore on the same ticket, some for miles and miles. There are over 1000km of ski runs accessible within a 20 minute drive of the chalet door.
  • Airport car hire
Bypass the airport crowds, the coach transfer delays and the herd stress. Geneva airport has all the normal car rental companies and on Easyjet’s website you can simply book with Europcar when buying your tickets. Discount companies like Rhino Car Hire and Holiday Autos give a better deal and supply from the same pool of cars from the big firms. We can advise you snow chainsIn winter The chalet has a magnetic ski rack you can borrow. Make sure you hire with ski chains. Later it gives you back the freedom to visit any of the surrounding village ski resorts, the skating rinks, and other activities. You can park up next to a main chair lift and the car provides a place to keep all your extra warm kit and spares. Or why not spend a day exploring the Alpine towns, like Annecy, or visit Geneva on your last day on the way back.
  • Never heard of Praz de Lys or Sommand? Find out why
A glance down the rows of neatly parked cars next to the main chair lift at Sommand tells you a lot. Lots of French family cars, and some Swiss too. Here everyone skis well and you will not find lads in their 20s with hangovers knocking you down or shouting into their mobiles at the lift queues. In fact there aren’t lift queues and its very family friendly from small toddlers sledging and grandparents whisking around effortlessly on cross-country skis.
